How to Make the Most Out of Your Labor Day
Every year on the first Monday in November, people across the US celebrate Labor Day! Created as a way to celebrate the dedication, hard work and achievements of American workers of all kinds, it’s become known to many as a day to relax and celebrate the end of summer.
However, while we all love a good BBQ and relaxing, it’s important to remember to take the time to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work and effort you’ve put in this year – whether on the job, at home or anywhere else.
To get you started, here are some things you can do this Labor Day to celebrate and to help set yourself up for success for years to come:
Work on your resume. It may have been some time since you updated your resume. Working on your resume after some time can give you new ideas and a new perspective on your current position and what you can do to improve yourself going forward.
Talk to your supervisor about the next steps. If you’re not satisfied with your current position, you may want to talk to a supervisor on ways you can improve or areas you excel in. Getting feedback from a supervisor or starting a conversation can help get you to where you want to be within your company or organization.
Make a plan. Take this time to think about your goals and how to achieve them. Writing out your goals and where you want to be in the next 5, 10 or even 20 years, whether that be getting a promotion or planning for a retirement. Taking the time to think and write out what you want can help motivate yourself and to find the tools and resources you need to make that goal a reality.
Get organized. Getting organized whether it be your desk or work area can help improve your efficiency and help you feel less overwhelmed. Clean off your desk, rearrange files or create a daily schedule. You’ll be surprised as to not only how much better you’ll feel but how much more productive you’ll be as well!
