Setting Yourself Up for Success

Setting Yourself Up for Success

You’ve got big dreams or goals for yourself. You’ve written them down, created a timeline, and are now ready to tackle them and reach greatness for yourself. Stay focused, limit distractions, and make sure you set yourself up for success by allowing your goals to be highly visible. Follow the five suggestions below to better achieve personal successes.

Prepare in Advance

“Preparation is the key to success.” Plan ahead, repeat good habits, establish a routine. Want to be sure you are fueling yourself in the morning with a healthy breakfast? Prepare ingredients or kitchen staples you’ll need the night before. Striving to fit in a workout after work? Lay out your exercise clothes so you have a visual reminder.

Be Picky!

Think small to achieve big outcomes. Don’t feel like you must do it all, prioritize what matters most to you. Pick a handful of key goals you want to focus on. By narrowing in on only a few, you’ll be better equipped to achieve your goals rather than spread yourself too thin focusing on too many.

Focus on the Good

Setting yourself up for success in the future might mean looking back at the past and evaluating what worked well. Assess the good you accomplished or the goals you achieved. Celebrate those victories while determining how to replicate this success for future goals. If things did not go well, identify gaps and refine your approach.

Create SMART Goals

Success can be achieved a bit more easily by following the SMART goals formula. SMART goals can be applied to personal wellness and growth or professional goals and development. The SMART framework focuses on setting goal objectives that are:

  • Specific – exact goal to achieve

  • Measurable – tracking progress

  • Achievable – realistic and attainable, identifying constraints

  • Relevant – Alignment with overall vision

  • Time-bound – Timeline for achieving goals

Using this framework to clearly define goals that are attainable and timely will help to ensure success.

Stay Flexible

Setting yourself up for success is all about having a game plan. But as you probably know, any game plan can come with unexpected challenges. Prepare to grow by keeping yourself accessible to change and staying nimble should you have to veer in a different direction. Stay confident that even if you need to pivot, you can still achieve your goals. It’s a journey, stay the course!

And remember, success cannot be achieved overnight, but with steady progression and a drive to achieve what’s most important to you, it’s possible!
