Celebrate Earth Day 2020 Virtually

Earth Day 2020, on April 22nd, marks 50 years of environmental awareness and shared demand for change. Amid the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Earth Day Network (the global organizer of Earth Day), will host its first Digital Earth Day, a global digital mobilization to address the most urgent threats to people and the planet.

Organizers share that instead of shutting down Earth Day, the COVID-19 pandemic serves as a reminder of what’s at stake in our fight for the planet. They recommend several ways to take action while social distancing, with the hopes these practices will continue well into the future:

  • Get creative and try some new plant-based recipes. Nonperishable foods, like canned or dry beans and rice, are easy to prepare and nutritious.

  • For any produce that has gone bad, try composting. It's easy to start with a lidded container stored under the sink, in the garage or on your balcony.

  • Read instead of streaming, to reduce your carbon footprint. Reading is good for the mind, the soul and as it turns out, the planet.

Visit www.earthday.org for more resources, including activities for every age, and to find ways you can participate in social media campaigns, online teach-ins and more. You can also sign up to receive updates.

Whether online or in person, the goal of Earth Day remains unchanged: to unite hundreds of millions of people around the world to pressure world leaders to act on environmental degradation and climate change.
