Celebrate Our Nurses & Teachers
Everyone is experiencing changes in their lives due to the COVID-19 pandemic but many of us wouldn’t be where we are without celebrating those who are keeping us safe and helping us adapt. National Teacher Day (May 5th) and National Nurses Day (May 6th) couldn’t have come at a better time as we celebrate them for their hard work, dedication and importance. Right now, nurses are the first line of defense for all of us in this fight and teachers of all kinds are going above and beyond to adapt learning opportunities for their students.
Here are ways you can show your support for the nurses and teachers making a difference in your life!
Write a Letter (or Email) – It’s one of the simplest ways to show your support. A heartfelt message, no matter how long or short, allows the person to know how much they mean to you. It can be to your favorite teacher or even a friend or relative who is a nurse. You can also send a general letter to a school or hospital expressing your thanks to everyone there.
Donate – Check the websites of your local hospitals or schools for donation requests. Some are asking for PPE masks to be sewn or school supplies to be donated. Buying or preparing meals for nurses at your local hospital is another great way to show your thanks and support.
Share – Help promote charities, causes or other beneficial things for teachers and nurses via your social network is another fantastic way to show your support. Post a link on your posts where others can donate money or supplies. Tweet your favorite story about how a teacher or nurse made an impact on your life. Spread the word about these amazing individuals and their important work.
Volunteer - With the extra downtime you may have available, research future volunteer opportunities at your local schools, hospitals or healthcare offices. Schools may have chances to help with afterschool care programs, chaperones or other opportunities. At hospitals, there are opportunities to volunteer as a concierge, working in the gift shop or specialized roles based on your experience and background. Once shelter-in-place requirements are lifted, you’ll be ready to sign up.
Say ‘Thank You’ – An often overlooked and underrated way to show someone you appreciate them is to simply tell them, ‘Thank you.’ Letting someone know that you are grateful for the hard work they do and the passion they put into their work is an excellent way to put a much-needed smile on their face.
