Family Fitness
Getting active as a family is possible! It will look different for each family because each family is different, and that is okay! Based on your family makeup, interests, schedules and goals, you can create a plan that will work for you.
Use play time. Time spent playing with your children (young and old) can be used as exercise. Tag, hide and seek, going to the park, riding bikes, and running can all be fun ways to exercise with the whole family. For older kids, these activities can become more competitive or built upon, based on their interests.
Use your pets. Families with pets can make walking and playing with their pet their active time during the week. Walking together after mealtimes can be especially beneficial for the whole family.
Use activity trackers. Get competitive with your family by setting daily or weekly step goals. This can also be incentivized – maybe the person with the least steps has to do the dishes!
Use down time. If a member of your family has sports practice or a game, use that time to walk on the sidelines, do squats in the bleachers, whatever feels right!
There is room to be creative and make active time fit your family’s unique needs and interests. The goal is to get up and get moving!
