Having a Safe and Fun 4th
Summer is here and many families around the country are getting ready to enjoy some good old fashioned ‘fun in the sun’ this July 4th weekend. However, with social distancing and other guidelines still in place, you may not be able to celebrate this Independence Day in typical ways. Even without parades and pool time, there a plenty of fun things to do!
Here are some tips you can use to celebrate the 4th safely while still having a great time.
Go For a Bike Ride: a long and leisurely bicycle ride is a great way to get out of the house, be active and enjoy the outdoors while keeping your distance from others. You can decorate your bikes with festive 4th of July decorations and even hold a contest to see whose bike is best decorated!
Have a Family Picnic: they’re not just for bears named Yogi. Put together a basket with your family’s favorite snacks and head out to your yard for some fun! If you don’t have a yard, try to make some space in an open room. If you want to visit a park, check with your local municipalities to make sure you are following all the proper guidelines for your community. No matter where you land, it is important to remember when having a picnic to keep your distance from others and always wash your hands. Be sure to disinfect the tables you use both before and after you are done.
Bake Decorative Treats: a great way to get into the festive spirit is baking. You can decorate cupcakes with red, white and blue frosting and top them off with sprinkles. Or try your hand at making a themed cake or cookies shaped like stars or fireworks. Decorating treats can also be a fun competition with your family, so break out those aprons and measuring cups and let the tastiest treat win,
Have a Backyard Camp Out: Many camp sites won’t be open this holiday so why not set up a camping site in your backyard? Spend the night watching fireworks or stargazing while enjoying some s’mores. Check out ways to create an outdoor movie theater and end the night with everyone’s favorite film.
No matter what you do this 4th of July holiday, there are lots of opportunities for fun while still practicing social distancing and guidelines.
