Tips For A Healthy Brain
Although we have not yet figured out how to prevent aging, we do have great information on ways to reduce some of its least favorable consequences. We can work to reduce our risk of memory loss due to aging with the following tips:
- Stimulate your brain - engage in activities to stimulate new connections between nerve cells. Take courses, complete word puzzles, do math problems, draw, paint, learn how to play an instrument and other activities that require mental effort.
- Be physically active - engage in exercise as it lowers blood pressure, improves cholesterol, reduces risk of diabetes and relieves stress, all of which keep your heart and brain healthy.
- Eat well - watch your portion sizes, reduce your intake of saturated fats, and eat your B vitamins (fortified cereals and leafy green veggies are good sources).
