Healthy Responses to COVID-19
As we continue to focus on the safety of our families, it has become clear that our “normal” routines will be disrupted in the coming weeks and perhaps months. If there is one certainty in all of this, it’s that we will be spending more time in our homes. To help your response to this change, we wanted to offer the following tips below.
Adopt a Positive Mindset
Pay attention to your inner narrative right now and choose to focus on the good. What are three things you are grateful for in this moment? Before you continue on with this email, we encourage you to pause and actually say or write down your top 3. Our Vice President of Client Success, Kristen Balchan, does this with her family each night at dinner.
Increase Your Personal Health Resilience
As we learn more about COVID-19, it is apparent that underlying health conditions greatly increase the risk of severe illness. To that end, there is no time like the present to focus on prioritizing your health. If there is a health goal you are working towards such as quitting smoking, managing your blood pressure, losing extra weight, or creating a routine around physical activity, ask about your company’s wellness program! You may have access to a team of health coaches to support you in your wellness journey.
Dedicate Space
While you find yourself at home more than before, choose to dedicate space to different activities. Perhaps it’s just a special chair you will always sit in for work or a separate room to keep electronics in when you are not working. Our Marketing Executive, Lauren Burke, has set up her work space in a separate room from her husband who is also working from home. She is also using their spare bedroom as a dedicated exercise space!
Take Functional Breaks
Set timers or reminders to get up and move during the day! You can find a tip sheet on our favorite online workouts here to help you keep up with your physical activity goals. Functional breaks can also include taking a pause to hydrate, putting on a favorite song to dance to, or pausing for some intentional breathing exercises. Our Director of Client Success, Kendra Weber, has been tuning in to our local meditation studio’s Instagram meditation sessions.
