Blossom Into Spring Stress-Free
Spring is underway and the last bits of winter weather are finally making way for some much-needed sunshine. Even better, some of us are finally able to get back outside and enjoy the season as some social distancing and stay-at-home orders are being lifted across the country! However, just because the weather is starting to get better and you may be able to return to a sense of normalcy doesn’t mean that stress is taking a break as well. Here are some great ways to help you combat your stress during the spring – whether you are still practicing social distancing or not:
Soak Up That Sun! Whether practicing social distancing or not in your area, try to make the effort to go outside and soak up those rays if stress is bringing you down. Taking a walk outside during your lunch break can quickly relieve some stress. When in sunlight, your brain releases one of our favorite ‘feel-good’ chemicals, serotonin, which helps boost your mood!
Exercise: One of the best stress management techniques is getting regular exercise. Being active causes a chemical reaction in your body to release endorphins that can help ease pain, reduce stress as well as many other mental and physical health benefits! Go on a walk, lift some weights, practice yoga or play a sport outside if able to.
Start a Garden: Gardening is a great way to get multiple benefits of Spring rolled into one! Gardening is also a great way to help promote healthy eating. Having a well-balanced diet high in fresh fruits and veggies is a great way to combat stress while also boosting your wellbeing. If you are unable to plant a garden outside, test your green thumb with indoor planting kits which can help relieve stress and depression while practicing social distancing.
Spring Cleaning: Let’s be honest, we all have things laying around at home, in the office or in your car that can use some ‘spring cleaning.’ It has even been shown that just doing the physical ‘act’ of cleaning allows you to relax your mind, which can be a great way to de-stress after a long day or week. Some studies have even shown that just 20 minutes of cleaning can show up to a 20% reduction in your overall stress and anxiety!
