Tips On How To Balance Your Energy

For most, the afternoon slump is a regular occurrence that impedes our capacity to do the activities we want to do at home and work.  Have you ever had the intention of going to exercise after work, and then, when the time comes, you don’t have the energy to go?  This doesn’t only apply to wellness related activities too.  It might be having the energy to play with your kids, being patient with others, or participating in hobbies you enjoy. 

When your energy dips low, the ability to stay resilient decreases.  To have sustained energy throughout the day, it is important to look at your top energy drainers and enhancers to help keep your tank near full.  The top three categories that will help either keep your tank full or drain it are:

  • Nutrition: Pay attention to how you feel after a meal.  Do you feel sleepy or energized after a meal?  The quality and quantity of your nutrition can keep you running all day, or it can leave you on the side of the road exhausted. 
  • Physical activity: The more you move, the better you will feel, and it doesn’t take much.  Try to make sure you are getting up every 1-2 hours for about 5-7 minutes to refill your tank. 
  • Stress management: The two categories above will help with managing your stress, but finding other techniques to use throughout the day will help you save on gas.  Deep breathing, meditation, playing soothing music, enjoying your favorite hobbies, and hanging out with friends will all help with managing your stress and energy.
