Finding Success In Progress
It’s easy for our minds to go straight to the scale, or how many work promotions we’ve had, or how much money is in our bank account to measure how successful we are. However, there are many other ways to look at success, especially when we can take in the process, rather than just focus on the end goal. By bringing awareness to the process, we can learn from both our wins and losses, show gratitude, and ultimately cultivate a healthier, more positive lifestyle.
Are you using your signature strengths?
One way to optimize the process is to ensure you are using your signature strengths. Simply put, your signature strengths are what you are good at. If you are good at sales, are you able to use this on a weekly basis? Or if you are a great cook, are you able to relate this to any of your health goals? When you include more of your signature strengths in your work and personal life, you may find that you feel more fulfilled, confident and able to achieve more. Take some time to jot down your signature strengths and ask yourself how you can incorporate these into your daily routine.
Are you open to failure?
Some of our greatest accomplishments require us to fail first. Instead of letting failure tear you down, take that moment as a learning experience and give yourself a pat on the back for trying something new. By acknowledging your failures, you are able to learn more about yourself while continuing to fine tune your path, which is ultimately a success and another step closer to your goals!
There are many ways we can find success in progress and it all starts with shifting our perspective. For example, the next time you look at the scale and don’t see results as quickly as you would like, try focusing on your improved energy, sleep quality and how motivating it feels to work on your weight loss goals. Celebrate small successes along the way!
