What Is Kombucha?

Kombucha is a fermented tea made from bacteria, yeast sugar, (sometimes) fruit juice, and other flavorings. This fermented beverage can be purchased at the grocery store or brewed right in your own kitchen.  It has an acidic, slightly sweet, vinegar-like smell with a little effervescence. This fermented tea has been around for centuries, but recently has become a hot health trend due to claims such as promotion of hair thickness, weight loss and detoxification. Kombucha also claims to stimulate the immune system, prevent cancer, and improve liver function. Many of these health claims have yet to be tested or proven, however many people drink Kombucha for probiotics, which can promote gut health and aid in digestion.
