Showing appreciation

Showing appreciation for others is the easiest way to communicate how much someone means to you. It will also improve your overall wellbeing. In fact, research has shown that being grateful for others improves happiness and can help you cope with adversity. 

While simply saying thank you is a great place to start, here are a few other ways to demonstrate your gratitude. 

  1. Be specific. Stating exactly what you are thanking someone for can boost its impact. A good example would be to say, “Thank you for pulling together that project. I know some of that information was hard to find.” This way, you’re letting the other person know their work and sacrifice did not go unnoticed. 

  2. Give a thank-you gift. A simple gift card or small token will usually do the trick, but if you want to step it up a notch, try making something yourself. This could be a baked good, a hat, a garden box or anything else you can make with your own hands. This shows the recipient how much you appreciate them for who they are and what they do. 

  3. Schedule some quality time. Depending on your relationship with the other person, quality time might be the perfect way to show appreciation. Giving someone your undivided attention is one of the best ways to grow closer and build mutual love and respect. Take it one step further by doing something they enjoy. This will allow you to get to know them better, and they will appreciate the extra effort. 

  4. Send a thank-you card. There’s a reason thank-you cards have been around so long. They are effective and can be personalized for any scenario. Many thank-you cards come with a message already written out. All you have to do is add a personal note, sign it and stick it in the mail. 

Regardless of your chosen method, showing appreciation lets others know you see their worth. Don’t hold back on expressing gratitude to strengthen your relationships and empower the people around you.
