How to Navigate The Grocery Store

Don’t let grocery shopping get you down. Swap for these smart shopping tips instead.

1. You don’t make a list.

Going to the store without a list is dangerous. You’re more likely to feel overwhelmed and select items you don’t need. Use a list as your guide to save time AND money at the grocery store. Pro tip: organize your grocery list by food group to navigate the store with ease.

2. You don’t buy in bulk.

When you don’t buy in bulk, you miss out on cost-saving opportunities. Are there items you buy at the grocery store week after week? Consider buying in bulk to save money and limit grocery trips. Healthy items to buy in bulk include nuts and seeds, grains, canned goods, and lean meats or frozen fish if you have the freezer space.

3. You shop out of season.

Eating with the seasons will also save you money. There’s a reason berries are cheaper in the summer! Also, produce often tastes better when it’s enjoyed close to the time of harvest. Have you noticed how much sweeter tomatoes are in season?  To shop in season, check out your local guide at seasonalfoodguide.org.

Soon enough, you’ll be shopping like a pro!
