Relief from Tension Headaches

We have all had stressful days at work, but for some of us this stress can lead to tension headaches. Fortunately, there are easy stretches that can be done at your desk to provide some relief once a tension headache hits:

Chin to Chest:
While looking straight ahead with your back aligned to your head, gently lower your chin towards your chest until you feel a stretch at the back of your neck. Hold this position for 30 seconds and slowly raise your head. Repeat 10 times.

Ear to Shoulder:
Gently bend your neck to the left side, attempting to touch your left ear to your shoulder until a stretch is felt on the right side of your neck. Use your hand to gently lower head further without causing any pain.  Hold this position for about 30 seconds and repeat on the other side.  Repeat 10 times for each side.

Also, by simply getting 7-8 hours of sleep, drinking plenty of water throughout the day, exercising regularly, and using relaxation techniques (such as mindful breathing, meditation or yoga), you can help stop a tension headache before it starts!
