Managing Anxiety When The World Feels Like A Mess

We live in an uncertain time, and that can be emotionally draining for even a relatively healthy person. We're so connected that it's nearly impossible to avoid the onslaught of tragic news, regardless of your media outlet of choice.

When the world seems like a mess, here are some strategies for managing your anxiety:

Ask questions. When you encounter an issue that deeply affects you and your anxiety, ask questions. Taking a moment to figure out the root cause of why you're reacting to said issue can allow you to move forward.

Action. Sometimes we react due to the simple horrific nature of the news. Ask yourself, "what can I do?". If there's a way to help, you can channel your anxiety and potentially help reduce the number of panic attacks because you're out there making a difference.

Take a break. Turn off your phone, log out of Facebook, turn off the TV. Take a deep breath, close your eyes, and think of something calming that you can do. Anxiety is physically draining and the pain from it is very real. Distract your mind and recharge.

Minimize. If possible, minimize or eliminate the source of your anxiety.

Go to bed. Sleep is necessary for your physical and mental health. Make it a priority. You'll be happy that you did.

Be safe, but be sane. Take your vitamins, wear sunscreen, drive the speed limit - whatever you can do to minimize stressors and be prepared.
